Before packing up our fences and racks one last time we had another amazing volunteer appreciation party, this time at The Whip on Main Street. We couldn’t run The Bicycle Valet without our volunteers and we were delighted that so many of you were able to make it. We hope to see you all back again next year!

Expect an invitation to participate in our 2012 Bicycle Valet Survey, and a chance to WIN!  Two winning tickets will be drawn: Prizes are an Arcteryx Fleece Jacket and an Icebreaker Merino Wool long sleeve shirt.

August will be another busy month for The Bicycle Valet. We will be in attendance at numerous events throughout the area: look for us at Bike to Bard, Celebration of Light, Powell Street Festival, Vancity Fresh Air Movie Tour, Kirtan Vancouver, Tour de Biennale, Chariot Festival of India, and Live at Squamish. We will continue to be at Trout Lake and Kitsilano Farmers Markets and of course at all of the home games of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

New Bicycle Valet events are being added all the time so keep an eye on our events calendar.

We remind our patrons to fill out your check stub to be entered in our twice-monthly prize draw. Lucky winners receive very attractive Icebreaker Merino Wool apparel and an excellent book (Carjacked by Catherine Lutz; Bus Tales: How to Change the World from 9 to 5 by Tom Tompkins and Michele Hall; On Bicycles ed. by Amy Walker; or Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne).

The Whitecaps games, Car Free Days, and Trout Lake and Kitsilano Farmers Markets continued to draw in big crowds – and The Bicycle Valet was there with safe, secure, free bicycle parking.

The last Sunday of June saw huge crowds at the ever-popular Greek Day – an amazing 895 bikes were parked by The Bicycle Valet in one day. That’s more than twice as many as we had last year!

On July 1 we had a great time at several Canada Day events — we were set up at the False Creek tennis courts and Ocean Concrete on Granville Island and at Canada Place.

Upcoming, in addition to more Whitecaps games and Farmers Markets, patrons can look forward to the MEC Paddlefest, Bike To Bard!, the Celebration of Light, and more. Keep an eye on our Facebook page, website, and Twitter for updates.

Kudos for our efforts came from a blogger at Kitsilano.ca who “In praise of Bicycle Valet” describes it as “a great idea, well implemented. It encourages people to bike to events, reduces traffic and reduces the clutter of having bikes scattered around by having a neatly organized corral.” Read the full post here.
